Recently a friend of mine, Roger, who built the N Scale Kiama layout featured previously in this blog, visited Dorrigo, near Coffs Harbour in the New South Wales. The region around Dorrigo is a place of greate natural beauty, and once there was a railway.

Opened in 1924, the Dorrigo line was apparently one of the most costly lines to operate and maintain in New South Wales, with steep grades and sharp curves.

Following flood damage in 1972, traffic on the line was suspended. It was never re-opened. Two organisations are attempting to or have re-opened parts of the line – one based in Dorrigo, and the other Glenreagh.
