Pizza and 4×1 feet HO scale micro layouts for minimal space model railroading. 4×1 feet micro layout plan finalised, track laying started. Pizza Layout scenery.

Over the last couple of weeks I have made good progress on the first 1200mm x 300mm (4×1 feet) micro layout, tentatively called “Box Street” in recognition of the “Boxer Shortline” plan on which it is based. The final track arrangement is as shown below.

The sector plate will hold a short switcher and a 40 scale feet box car. The addition of the extra trackage that is possible due to the layout being an extra foot long compared with the “Boxer Shortline” plan adds operational interest and capacity.

I have also made progress on the scenery on my 600mm x 600mm (2×2 feet) “Pizza” layout and (believe it or not) I have worked out a way to operate it to make it operationally interesting even though there are no turnouts or sidings to switch.

Train travelling under the stone loader.
The “passenger depot”.
Old machinery near the stone loader.
Stone loader with chute to allow trains to be loaded with stone.

Overall, I am quite happy with the progress on the “pizza” layout and first 4×1 feet micro layout. The “Pizza” layout still requires more scenery treatment. The Box Street 4×1 feet micro layout is still having the track laid and is not yet operational.

The 1×4 loos like a great little layout on which to have a lot of fun switching. Thanks!
