Recently I decided to change the Petra Aggregates spur so that it allowed for a more realistic looking industry that might receive stone from open hoppers. This has been in the back of my mind for quite some time, and only recently did it make its way to the place in my mind where it became a serious consideration.
The change required all rollingstock to be off the Dolton module, some re-wiring, some cutting out of the existing frame with a jigsaw, some cutting away of the baseboard, and removal of track.
It took a few hours to cut out the bunker but overall I am happy with how it looks so far. The plan is to add a trestle bridge over the bunker, with some openings between the rails to simulate the ability to gravity feed aggregate into the bunker below.
Now that the basic shape and track has been laid the layout is once again operational and the pressure to finish the bunker is minimal. Now I just need to purchase some balsa wood to build the trestle bridge section. That’s not as easy as it might sound as it requires a trip into the nearest hobby shop about 50 kilometres away. So it will wait until we need to go there for other things as the price of fuel doesn’t justify going in just to buy $5.00 worth of balsa wood!
